Word Wednesday - numismatics

numismatics \noo-miz-MAT-iks; -mis-; nyoo-\, noun:
the collection and study of money (and coins in particular).
From Dictionary.com

I actually received this one this morning and it was only one of three words in a month that I hadn't heard before. I didn't realize just what a vocabulary I have. I don't see it as big, but I do get my chops busted at my first aid squad. One woman said she needed a dictionary any time she talked to me. I don't feel I put on airs. I really just use those words. Another friend always asks me what a word means and in a conversation with someone I've known for years, he admitted he looks the words up after the conversation. I thought that was humorous.
And one guy actually asked me to spell a word. I'm also a good speller (not a good typist) so that wasn't a problem.
Then late one night in a Dunkin' Donuts he used that very same word. Too funny.
If no one busts your chops where I work, then no one likes you.
Back to the word.
I always though Europe had it right. They have a one Euro coin and before the Euro each country had a coin that represented one of thier paper money. Not the big bulky dollar coin we make. Theirs were usually small and convenient to keep in your pocket.
The study of money. I would assume it would also go along with collecting money of different countries. We used to have a collection because we have a friend who is an airline pilot. He'd bring back coins from wherever he went.
Then we opted to donate them to a charity. Forget which one, but the charity would take foreign money.
We don't collect anything, but dust bunnies now.
So what do you collect?

This is one of the words I kind of knew, but didn't exactly know how to spell.
I used to have a coin collection when I was a kid. Now I just spend it.(g)

I try not to start collecting things. The few times I have, family notices then I get tons of them for presents. Then I have to tell them, no, no, I'm NOT collecting elephants! Don't send anymore elephants.

Now I only collect dust.

I wish I could say I collected money. In the bank preferably. But really, I collected BUFFY stuff. Lots of it. My home office is a shrine to Buffy. Of course now I'm in getting rid of clutter mode and have done so around most of the house. The only place left to de-clutter - my office. YIKES! What do I do with all this BUFFY stuff? I guess there's always Ebay for those things I decide to part with.

Books. Books. More books.

That's about it. I only have 2 first editions, but I treasure them. One a boss gave to me (F. Scott Fitzgerald's "This Side of Paradise"), and the other is a signed copy of "What's Eating Gilbert Grape", and I am in the acknowledgements as I worked with Peter Hedges on the prep of his manuscript of the book.

Helen,
That happened with me with Pfaltzgraf. I have corn dishes from them. I have serving dishes I can't even imagine what goes in them.
And I wish I collected money in the bank, too.
